This research is expected to serve as a scientific basis for supporting disaster mitigation policies and sustainable coastal area management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study covered the coastal areas of Pekalongan, Kendal, Semarang, and Demak. Field data collection was conducted from July 9\u201317, 2026, using photogrammetry technology,&nbsp;<em>Light Detection and Ranging<\/em>&nbsp;(LiDAR), as well as&nbsp;<em>Global Navigation Satellite System<\/em>&nbsp;(GNSS) to obtain high-resolution topographic and land surface deformation data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collected data will serve as validation data for the development of a land subsidence model. The integration of these three technologies is expected to enhance the accuracy of projections regarding land surface elevation changes, thereby providing an overview of conditions in the northern coastal region of Central Java for the next century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-826.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18477\" srcset=\"https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-826.jpg 768w, https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-826-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-826-16x12.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the researchers involved in this collaboration, Ir. Twin Hosea W. Kristyanto, M.T. from the Geology Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), is responsible for analyzing changes in ground surface elevation through photogrammetric data processing and evaluating land subsidence rates based on measurements taken at monitoring markers at each observation station. Integrating these two data sources is a crucial step in validating the model currently under development, enabling the formulation of elevation change projections for the next 100 years with a higher level of reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Twin, this research focuses not only on measuring current land subsidence conditions but also on developing a predictive model that can serve as a scientific basis for formulating spatial planning policies, infrastructure development, and future disaster mitigation strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy integrating GNSS data, LiDAR, photogrammetry, and geospatial modeling, we are developing land subsidence projections for the next 100 years to serve as a basis for policymaking,\u201d said Twin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasized that this study does not aim to cause public alarm regarding the potential submergence of Central Java's northern coast. Instead, the findings are expected to serve as a scientific basis for the government and stakeholders to formulate appropriate measures and early mitigation strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to provide scientific information that can support data-driven decision-making,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-827.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-827.jpg 768w, https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-827-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/biologi.sci-ui.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sci-827-9x12.jpg 9w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the field survey, the research team also witnessed firsthand the impact of land subsidence on the lives of local residents. In several locations, houses appeared to sit lower than the road surface due to ongoing elevation loss, yet some residents still chose to remain in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cField findings indicate that education regarding the risks of land subsidence and the importance of adaptation efforts still needs to be further strengthened,\u201d said Twin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team also discovered the development of a new residential area at one of the study sites\u2014located near a zone showing signs of significant land subsidence. According to Twin, these findings underscore the importance of utilizing scientific study results in development planning, ensuring that safety, sustainability, and long-term risks can be anticipated from the outset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, Twin highlighted the importance of maintaining the Geological Agency's monitoring markers, which serve as reference points for the continuous observation of ground deformation. During the survey, the team found several markers situated amidst new buildings or rendered inaccessible due to damaged fences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLong-term data continuity relies heavily on the preservation of monitoring markers. Laksono, added that field measurements indicate the rate of land subsidence in the study area ranges from 2 to 12 centimeters per year. The most significant subsidence occurred in Sayung, Demak, and North Semarang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBased on measurement benchmark data from the Geological Agency, the rate of land subsidence in the study area ranges from 2 to 12 centimeters per year. This cross-institutional collaboration combines expertise in geodesy, geology, and geospatial technology to produce a more comprehensive land subsidence prediction model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This research is funded by the Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Higher Education through the 2026 Lecturer Research Grant Scheme.
