To Improve Emergency Response Capabilities, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Holds Fire Extinguisher Training

The green open space located between the Center of Excellence Building and the Multidisciplinary Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI – PT Pertamina (Persero) on the UI campus in Depok looked different on Thursday (June 30th).

That bright morning, Occupational Health and Safety (K3L) officers from each department, the security team, and staff managing facilities and infrastructure within the FMIPA UI campus gathered in the park for a training session on the use of a Light Fire Extinguisher (APAR).

The training was held by the FMIPA UI K3L unit to improve emergency response skills in the event of a fire and prepare participants to be alert in an emergency.

Dean of FMIPA UI, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., was present to convey his support and encouragement to the organizing unit and participants.

Accompanied by the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Sc., Dean said, "The leadership of FMIPA UI has committed to creating a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly workplace. Therefore, based on this commitment, we, through the K3L unit, initiated the implementation of this training."

The activity presented the fire prevention and emergency response management team from the UI K3L Technical Implementation Unit consisting of Heri Jamal, Untung, Sugino, Malik Ibrahim, and Gumi Mani Saputra as instructors to directly deliver training materials.

The training method was delivered using an interactive method, where participants were introduced to theoretical concepts, application examples, interactive discussions, and direct practice during simulations. In addition to how to use APAR, participants were also given insight into the types of APAR and their uses for each type. This is important so that participants understand the use of the appropriate and effective type of APAR in an emergency.

"We need to know the classes (groups) of fire or the source of the cause of the fire so that the type of APAR used is effective in controlling the fire," said Heri Jamal.

The implementation of this training is expected to encourage the realization of a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly work environment as the goals and targets of K3L, namely zero injuries, zero occupational diseases and reducing environmental pollution.
