Study Tracer for the Department of Biology, FMIPA UI
The Biology Undergraduate Study Program (PS S1) FMIPA UI has made efforts to track and record graduate data (tracer study). This tracking is carried out online by distributing a questionnaire link to alumni who have graduated in the last 5 years via social media or email. Questions on the graduate questionnaire include personal data, year of entry, year of graduation, length of time in getting a job, agency where you work, position or job title, type of job, graduate assessment of the quality of academic and non-academic services obtained during college, as well as suitability of the job to the field knowledge. Apart from that, alumni are also asked to provide opinions and input for future improvements to the Study Program.
Apart from graduate data, a tracer study was also carried out on the leaders of the work units where graduates work (graduate users). This tracking is carried out by sending a letter or email to the head of the work unit where the graduate works containing a request to fill out a questionnaire containing an assessment of the performance of the Bachelor of Science in Biology FMIPA UI graduates. The graduate assessment indicators that must be filled in in the questionnaire are ethics, morals, skills based on the field of science, English language skills, use of information and communication technology, teamwork, and self-development efforts while working. Apart from that, users can also provide input regarding the types of graduate abilities that are considered unsatisfactory.
The number of graduate respondents who participated in the tracer study in 2020 was 121 graduates. Meanwhile, the number of users who participated was 90 people. The next study program will use the tracer study data to improve several things, including the learning process, fundraising, job information and building networks. Following are some of the results of the 2020 tracer study data processing.
A. Graduate Waiting Time
The results of the questionnaire showed that 78.91% of graduates got their first job less than 6 months after graduation. This shows that graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Biology FMIPA UI are needed by various agencies. There are also graduates who get jobs after 6 months and 18 months. However, the waiting period percentage is relatively small, namely 17.97% and 3.12%. The job waiting period is influenced by several factors, including the preference to continue studying at a higher level, the mismatch between the staff recruitment schedule at the desired agency and the graduation schedule, as well as competition with graduates from other universities. However, the high number of graduates who get jobs in a relatively short time (less than 6 months) indicates that graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Biology FMIPA UI are relatively competitive (can compete) compared to graduates of other universities.
B. Kesesuaian Bidang Kerja
The suitability of the competencies achieved by graduates with the needs of the world of work is evaluated by tracking the field of the agency where the graduate works. The results of the questionnaire showed that 71.09% of graduates had a high suitability for the field of biological sciences. This indicates good relevance between the fields studied while studying at the Bachelor of Science in Biology FMIPA UI and their application when working. There are also graduates whose field of work is compatible with biology in the "medium" and "low" categories. However, the percentage of conformity in the two categories is relatively small, namely 6.25% and 22.66%. The jobs of FMIPA UI BA Biology graduates vary, whether in government agencies, private companies, or other agencies (NGOs) related to the field of Biology.
C. User Satisfaction
Evaluation of graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Biology FMIPA UI is also based on the assessment of the leadership of the work unit where the graduates work regarding their performance. Based on the results of the questionnaire, all graduate performance indicators show a high level of satisfaction. The average level of user satisfaction with graduates is 52.3% in the "Very Good" category, 45.3% in the "Good" category, 2.3% in the "Fair" category, and 0.2% in the "Poor" category. . This data shows that the Biology Study Program at FMIPA UI is able to produce graduates who have commendable professional ethics, competitive toughness in the national and international job market, and independence in developing themselves for personal and other people's interests based on biological science.
