The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), through the Special Work Unit of the Applied Science Institute (UKK LST), established cooperation in the field of maritime training and marine safety, on Tuesday (30/1/2024), at the Situ Salam training location, UI Campus, Depok.
The cooperation agreement was signed by the Head of the Special Work Unit of the FMIPA UI Applied Science Institute, Eko Waludi, S.T., M.Si. and the Executive Director of the Sinar Poseidon Gupita Training Center, Wadhar Suryatmaja, M.Mar.E. witnessed by the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures and General Administration of FMIPA UI, Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., and Evira Tri Noverni, S.S., M.M. as the Chairperson of the Sinar Poseidon Gupita Foundation.
The background of this cooperation is the importance of developing human resources in the Indonesian maritime sector, in accordance with the standards of world maritime organizations. Therefore, FMIPA UI and Sinar Poseidon Gupita Training Center are committed to organizing quality certified maritime training for the general public, especially those engaged in marine and fisheries activities.

In accordance with the cooperation agreement, both parties will hold maritime and marine safety training activities, including: Basic Safety Training (BST), Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF), dan Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB), which in its implementation is carried out at the Marine Safety and Disaster Training Center, FMIPA UI, Situ Salam UI. In addition to maritime and marine safety training, this training center also provides basic training activities in the field of disasters such as extinguishing fires using blanket, Light Fire Extinguisher (APAR) and fire hydrant.
The implementation of training activities by the Sinar Poseidon Gupita Training Center will be accompanied by the Marine Study Center of FMIPA UI which is under the auspices of the Special Work Unit of the FMIPA UI Applied Science Institute.
Dr. Tito as the head of FMIPA UI welcomed this collaboration. In his speech, he said that this collaboration is a form of FMIPA UI's participation in producing quality and competent human resources in managing marine resources.
"We are very happy with the implementation of this cooperation agreement, where FMIPA UI and Sinar Poseidon Gupita Training Center have been working together for approximately 20 years," said Dr. Tito.
Dr. Tito assessed that this collaboration can also be a strategic step in an effort to outwit the promotion strategy of the Master of Marine Science Study Program, FMIPA UI, in order to increase the number of new students in the Study Program. So he encouraged the Master of Marine Science Study Program team and the Center for Marine Studies, FMIPA UI to take advantage of this opportunity optimally.
"This program has high enthusiasm, we have to find a way to motivate participants to continue their education in the Master of Marine Science Study Program, FMIPA UI. The Coordinator of the Marine Study Center and the Head of the Master of Marine Science Study Program can help promote it to participants," he said.

In line with Dr. Tito, Evira in her speech said, "This activity is very important for improving the competence of human resources, especially in the field of marine and fisheries. Because, anyone who will work on a ship or be active in all activities related to marine affairs must have a certificate that we organize,"
In addition, Evira continued, the collaborative activities between FMIPA UI and her party can be developed in the future, because the competency certification obtained by participants is only valid for up to 5 years, which means that participants must revalidate their competency certificates every 5 years.
Before closing her speech, Evira said that her party would help FMIPA UI in promoting the FMIPA UI Marine Science Masters Study Program to participants through this collaborative training activity.
Both parties hope that this cooperation can continue and produce reliable human resources in the maritime sector, who are skilled in developing the management of natural resources and marine potential in Indonesia.
The FMIPA UI Marine Safety and Disaster Training Center at Situ Salam with its facilities is also expected to be utilized more optimally, both for the UI academic community and the general public who are interested in developing maritime human resources, or human resources who are responsive to marine safety and disasters.
Also attending the event were Dr. Riani Widiarti, M.Sc. (Coordinator of the Marine Study Center, FMIPA UI); Prof. Dr. A. Harsono, M. Eng. (Professor of Physics), Drs. Sundowo Harminto, M.Sc. (Lecturer of the Department of Biology) and Dra. Tuty Handayani, MS. (Lecturer of the Department of Geography) who are the initiators of the Marine Science Study Center and the Master of Marine Science Study Program, FMIPA UI; Ach. Mukhtarul Huda, S.H.I., S.H., M.Sc. (Head of the Campus Environmental Security Technical Implementation Unit); the leadership ranks in the FMIPA UI environment; and the leadership ranks of the Sinar Poseidon Gupita Foundation.
