Amelia Febri Utami, a 2022 undergraduate chemistry student from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) won second place in the solo singing competition at UI's 73rd Dies Natalis. The winner was announced at the peak of UI's Dies Natalis celebration held on Wednesday (22/2/2023) at Balairung, UI Campus, Depok.

Amel performed the song "Angel Also Knows" by Dewi Lestari in this competition. In producing audio recordings and video clips as the basis for assessment by the jury team, she received support for recording facilities, tapping and video editing by the team from FMIPA UI.

The final results of the video material were then uploaded via the official Instagram page of the FMIPA UI public relations as assessment material for the jury team.

He was considered to have met the assessment criteria set by the jury team in this singing competition, the assessment criteria included voice color/timbre, vocal technique (breathing, sound production, articulation, improvisation, pitch accuracy), expression and appreciation as well as overall appearance.

To the FMIPA UI public relations team, Amel revealed that since childhood she had a hobby of singing and consistently honed her singing skills by taking vocal lessons until she was in high school. Until now, she has been practicing vocals independently.

"I have taken vocal lessons since elementary school until high school. After that, I focused on practicing on my own and performing at several events," said Amel to the FMIPA UI public relations team.

Her golden voice has also led her to win the 1st place title in the Solo Vocal Category at the 2022 UI Art War event. And until now, Amel is still actively filling several big events in the capital city.

Amel, a student of the Undergraduate Chemistry Study Program, FMIPA UI, proved that students majoring in MIPA are also talented in non-academic fields. For her, liking science does not mean closing herself off from potential in other fields. According to her, her singing hobby is to balance her activities.

The chemistry lover expressed his desire to work as a Research and Development (RnD) expert in the beauty product industry.

"I chose FMIPA UI chemistry because chemistry has been my favorite subject since high school. In addition, UI chemistry has wide job opportunities, one of which is in the field that I am interested in, namely cosmetics. I hope that later I can work in one of these companies," said Amel.
