Depok, 24 April 2025 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) officially launched three new study programs this academic year. The programs include the Doctoral Program (S3) in Geography, the Doctoral Program (S3) in Mathematics, and the Medical Physicist Professional Program. This launch is part of FMIPA UI's efforts to strengthen its contribution to the development of science and meet the need for high-quality human resources in Indonesia.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., said that these three study programs were designed to answer the challenges in the development of science and professionalism, which are increasingly needed in various sectors, both in the academic world, industry, and community service.
"We see a need to expand the capacity of science and professionalism in facing global challenges. The Doctoral Program in Geography and Mathematics will strengthen FMIPA UI's position in producing international quality researchers, while the Medical Physicist Professional Program is here to meet the demands of the health world which increasingly relies on sophisticated technology," said Prof. Dede at the UI Depok Campus.
Furthermore, Prof. Dede added that the launch of these new programs also strengthens FMIPA UI's position as an innovative higher education institution that is responsive to developments in the era. This is in line with the vision of the University of Indonesia to become a world-class university.
"With the opening of these three study programs, FMIPA UI not only enriches the quantity of educational programs, but also improves the quality of graduates who can contribute significantly both at the national and global levels," he added.
The Doctoral Program in Geography was launched in response to the in-depth needs related to spatial and environmental studies, especially in the context of climate change, disaster resilience, and sustainable development. This program prioritizes the restructuring of spatial concepts and models based on spatial information technology as the basis for decision-making in sustainable resource management with a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, or transdisciplinary approach.
Meanwhile, the Doctoral Program in Mathematics is focused on developing theoretical and applied studies in the fields of mathematics, statistics and data science, and actuarial science that support innovation in information technology, finance, and industry 4.0. This program aims to produce graduates who are able to meet the needs of both the education sector and the industrial sector, such as finance, actuarial, pharmacy, health, and information technology.
Both doctoral programs offer two study paths, namely the lecture-research path and the research path, which are adjusted to the academic background and needs of students.
The Medical Physicist Professional Program is here to answer the need for professional personnel in radiation technology-based health services. With a clinical practice-based curriculum, this program prepares graduates to become Medical Physicists who are ready to contribute in the fields of Radiotherapy, Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine in hospitals.
"The medical world increasingly needs professionals who understand the physics aspects behind diagnostic and therapeutic technology. We are here to bridge that need with a solid academic approach and best practices," explained Prof. Dede.
Admissions for the Doctoral Program in Geography and Doctoral Program in Mathematics will be opened through the University of Indonesia Entrance Selection (SIMAK UI) in the Wave II registration period, which runs from May to June 2025, and through the Even Wave of SIMAK UI in October 2025. Meanwhile, admissions for the Medical Physicist Professional Program will only be opened through SIMAK UI Wave II.
FMIPA UI is committed to producing superior graduates who contribute to the development of science and technology. With various innovative study programs, FMIPA UI continues to strive to improve the quality of education and research to support national and global development.
