FMIPA UI Receives Visit from Leiden University Delegation for Initiation of Joint Degree Program in Postgraduate Biology

Depok, 4 Juni 2025 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), received an academic visit from Leiden University, the Netherlands, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation in education and research. The event took place at the FMIPA UI Administrative Center Building, UI Depok Campus, and served as a starting point for both institutions to explore various forms of strategic collaboration, including the initiation of joint programs. Joint Degree pada jenjang pascasarjana, khususnya dalam bidang Biologi.

The visit was opened with a welcome speech by the Manager of Internationalization and Global Ranking at FMIPA UI, Munawar Khalil, Ph.D. The delegation from Leiden University was led by the Dean of the Graduate School of Science, Prof. Dr. Erik H. J. Danen, accompanied by the Academic & Education Support Officer from the Office of Leiden University in Indonesia, Afwan Afwandi.

One of the main discussions in this meeting was the plan to open the program Joint Degree for the Ph.D. in Biology. The program is designed to provide students with a cross-border academic experience, with an integrated curriculum and degree recognition from both universities.

More than just sharing curriculum, programs Joint Degree This program offers a variety of strategic benefits, including: expanding students' access to world-class research facilities, enriching scientific perspectives through multicultural learning, and opening up opportunities for international research collaboration and publication. Students who participate in this program will receive academic guidance from two renowned institutions, while building a global network that is very beneficial for their future academic and professional careers.

Both institutions also expressed their commitment to expanding cooperation in the field of research. This cross-country research collaboration is expected to serve as an important foundation for the advancement of science and global contributions to various scientific issues, such as climate change, biodiversity, and environmental health.
