Two Best Fields of Science at FMIPA UI in Indonesia According to QS WUR by Subject 2024

The world's best university ranking institution, QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) by Subject has again released its latest rankings for 2024. From the results of the ranking, two fields of science from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), namely Geography, and Physics and Astronomy, occupy the top positions as the best fields of science in Indonesia in the broad subject areas of natural sciences.

Dean of FMIPA UI Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D. said, “The achievements in both fields of science are extraordinary achievements for FMIPA UI. As FMIPA UI’s commitment to improving academic quality and reputation in the eyes of the international community. Hopefully, this achievement can further encourage the academic community, especially lecturers and researchers in other fields of science at FMIPA UI to continue to improve their research performance.”

This year, Geography is ranked 101-150, this achievement is certainly an increase compared to the previous four consecutive years which placed Geography in position 151-200. Meanwhile, Physics and Astronomy still maintain their rankings at positions 501-550.

In addition to these two fields of science, three other fields of science at FMIPA UI are also included in the QS WUR by Subject 2024 rankings, namely Mathematics at rank 501 - 550, Biological Sciences which is included in the broad subjects areas of Life Sciences & Medicine is ranked 551 - 600, followed by Chemistry which this year has succeeded in adding to the long list of FMIPA UI's achievements in QS WUR by Subject by ranking 551 - 600.

The Dean is optimistic that in the future other fields of science at FMIPA UI will be able to add to the long list of achievements in the international arena. This is not impossible, because according to him, FMIPA UI continues to strive to improve its academic reputation both at the national and international levels, by actively conducting research and innovation activities, and opening the door to collaboration with partners both at home and abroad, to implement programs in the field of education and joint research, including through student mobility activities, student exchange, writing scientific papers and organizing international seminars.

"We also continue to strive for collaboration with domestic and foreign partners in educational and research activities. Many of our partners from abroad conduct research in Indonesia. They ask for help from lecturers at FMIPA UI to collaborate in writing research, so that the names of FMIPA UI researchers appear in the research paper," he added.

He hopes that this achievement will be a motivation for the academic community of FMIPA UI to jointly improve performance, creativity and research innovation, in line with efforts to realize the vision of FMIPA UI, namely to become a leading science faculty in the field of science that is able to play a role at the global level to advance science and sustainable development.
