Depok, March 9, 2026 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), held an iftar gathering on Friday (March 6, 2026), at the Auditorium of the Pertamina Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, FMIPA UI. The event was attended by more than 150 participants, including faculty and departmental leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, and student representatives.
The event began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, specifically Surah Ali-Imran verse 103, delivered by Zulkarnain (Chemistry 2022) as the qari, followed by a summary of the recitation (sari tilawah) by Muhammad Shibghatullah (Physics 2022). The gathering served as an important moment to strengthen bonds and foster a sense of togetherness within the FMIPA UI community during the holy month of Ramadan.

In his remarks, the Dean of FMIPA UI conveyed that Ramadan is a very special month as it teaches the values of patience, sincerity, togetherness, and care for others.
“Ramadan is a month full of blessings. During this month, we not only refrain from hunger and thirst, but also strengthen our spiritual values and foster closer bonds of togetherness,” he said.
He also emphasized that this iftar gathering serves as a valuable opportunity to strengthen unity and foster a sense of family within the FMIPA UI community.
“FMIPA is not only a place where we work, study, and conduct research, but also a large family that supports and strengthens one another while working together to build the future of science,” he added.

Furthermore, the Dean stated that as a faculty with a vital role in the advancement of science and technology, FMIPA UI remains committed to making its best contributions to the university, the nation, and society. However, he emphasized that such achievements are not solely built on academic and research accomplishments, but also on the strength of togetherness, integrity, and collaboration among the entire academic community.
Through this event, he expressed his hope that the spirit of togetherness and brotherhood within FMIPA UI will grow even stronger, enabling all members of the faculty to continue to collaborate, create, and innovate in advancing FMIPA UI and delivering a broader impact to society.
As part of the event series, FMIPA UI also presented a Ramadan tausiyah delivered by Abdul Haris, a Professor in Geophysics at FMIPA UI, who currently serves as Deputy for the Coordination of Village Empowerment, Disadvantaged Villages, and Special Regions at the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment of the Republic of Indonesia.

In his tausiyah, Prof. Abdul Haris reminded that Ramadan is a valuable opportunity for Muslims to strengthen their faith and devotion to Allah SWT.
According to him, taqwa is not only understood as carrying out Allah’s commands and avoiding His prohibitions, but also encompasses care for the environment, nature, and the social conditions around us.
“Allah SWT promises that whoever is mindful of Him (has taqwa) will be granted a way out of every difficulty they face and will be provided sustenance from sources they could never have imagined,” he said.
He also outlined three important things that can be done in facing various challenges in life.
First is prayer, which he said should become a routine, especially after performing the obligatory prayers. Second is maintaining silaturahmi (social bonds). He emphasized that silaturahmi is one of the means through which help from Allah SWT may come through others. Third is charity (sadaqah), which serves as both a closing and a complement to the various acts of worship performed.
The iftar gathering was then concluded with a collective prayer, followed by breaking the fast together in a warm atmosphere filled with togetherness and a strong sense of family among all attendees.
