FMIPA UI Showcases Innovation at Leading Energy Forum

The Geology and Geophysics Study Program (Geoscience), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), University of Indonesia (UI) once again took part in the prestigious event Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention & Exhibition 2025 which took place on 20–22 May 2025 at ICE BSD City, Tangerang. This event was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto.

FMIPA UI's participation in IPA Convex 2025 marks its third participation, as part of the campus' commitment to bridging the academic world and the energy industry. IPA Convex 2025 is a strategic forum that brings together more than 200 exhibitors, including national and global energy companies, as well as government and academic institutions, to share innovations, ideas, and build collaborations towards a sustainable future for the energy sector.

One of the main highlights of FMIPA UI's presence is the student innovation called SeismoSense, a portable tool developed to monitor building movements during an earthquake. Designed as part of an early warning system (early warning system), SeismoSense is capable of performing vibration analysis of building structures. real-time, so it has great potential in supporting disaster risk mitigation and strengthening national infrastructure resilience.

"This innovation is not just academic research, but has the potential for implementation in the real world," said Iskandarsyah, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer in the Geophysics Study Program who accompanied the student team at the exhibition location.

In addition to displaying SeismoSense, the FMIPA UI team also exhibited a collection of mini rocks of various types, ranging from sedimentary, igneous, to metamorphic rocks, as a means of geoscience education for visitors. This collection is a reminder of the richness of the Indonesian geology as well as a real form of FMIPA UI's contribution to increasing earth literacy among the community.

Geoscience students from FMIPA UI were also present at the panel discussion session entitled “How Can Young Minds Shape the Future of Energy Sector”, which featured keynote speaker Awang Lazuardi, Director of Development and Production of Pertamina Hulu Energi. In his discussion, Awang emphasized the importance of transforming the energy industry towards environmentally friendly, sustainable, and innovation-based practices. He also encouraged the younger generation to equip themselves with multidisciplinary knowledge and dynamic skills in facing change.

Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., said that the presence of FMIPA UI in IPA Convex 2025 is a real form of FMIPA UI's commitment as a leading science faculty in preparing graduates who are ready to become agents of change in the fields of energy and disasters.

"We don't want students to just be spectators of change. They must be at the forefront, bringing solutions that have an impact," said Prof. Dede.

Furthermore, Prof. Dede revealed FMIPA UI's plan to expand collaboration with energy industry players through innovation incubation programs, applied internships, and joint research forums. The main focus of this collaboration includes strategic issues such as energy transition, climate change, and disaster management.
