Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Universitas Indonesia
On Friday, March 18, 2022, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), held a graduation ceremony for the odd semester graduates of the 2021/2022 academic year. As in previous semesters, this semester's graduation ceremony was still held virtually.
To the graduates, Dean of FMIPA UI, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., said, "The pandemic has forced us to adapt quickly to the new normal. However, this is certainly not a reason to stop the process. Rather, it serves to strengthen ourselves as human beings, enabling us to better understand the situation, challenge ourselves to learn new things, and think more critically and systematically."
Dean Dede continued, whether the graduation ceremony is held in person or virtually, it is nothing more than a ceremony. However, what is most important is that the true essence of graduation remains intact: entering a new stage, whether pursuing the next level of education or entering the world of work, and self-actualization through work and innovation.
"The most important thing is how, going forward, you are all able to contribute to the nation and state through innovation and diverse work amidst global change," added Dean Dede.
Also present at the event, which was broadcast live on the FMIPA UI YouTube channel, was Barry Mikhael Cavin, S.Si., M.Sc., an alumnus of the 2010 Mathematics undergraduate program. He currently serves as Head of Content, Head of Educator Training at PT Zenius Education, and Co-founder of Ngobrol Matematika.
Barry's presence was to provide encouragement and motivation to the graduates in facing the challenges of Industry 4.0, especially during the current pandemic.
In his welcoming speech, Barry explained at least four important points that FMIPA UI alumni need to possess: the ability to know oneself, seriously pursue a vision, be an adaptive individual, and possess resilience.
He believed these four qualities are quite relevant for facing the challenges of the workplace and industry in the current pandemic era. Especially in welcoming the demographic bonus of 2045.
"I believe that with these four points, we, as the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia (UI), can be at the forefront of promoting a more resilient, rational, and scientific Indonesian society. We can make public decisions based on rigorous science, strong philosophical arguments, and equally strong mathematical logic," said the man who has spent five years in the education sector.
"As the next generation to lead, we can ensure that Indonesia's goal of becoming a developed nation in 2045 can truly be achieved, not just as a mere slogan, but truly observable, that Indonesians, even at the grassroots level, possess a truly advanced, rational, scientific mindset, and are able to work together," Barry concluded.
This semester, FMIPA UI produced 316 graduates. These include 273 undergraduate graduates, 70 master's graduates, and 9 doctoral graduates. Of these graduates, 74 earned Cum Laude honors.
In this moment of pride for the graduates and their mentors, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Indonesia (UI) announced its top graduates from each study program.
These are the FMIPA UI graduates who earned the honors of best graduates for the odd semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Year.
