The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) has once again made a proud achievement in the international arena. This is proven by the inclusion of 5 fields of science of FMIPA UI in the world ranking version of Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject.
These 5 fields of science consist of Geography, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, yang masuk pada broad subject areas Natural Science, dan Biological Sciences on broad subject areas Life Sciences & Medicine.
The number of fields of science increased from the previous year, which was 4 fields of science. This increase was achieved by the inclusion of the field of Chemistry in the ranking.
In addition, there was also an increase in achievement in Geography. Last year, Geography was ranked 151-200, now it has increased to 101-150. Meanwhile, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy are still in the same position as the previous year, both fields are in positions 501-550, as well as Biological Sciences which still maintains its position in positions 551-600, followed by Chemistry in positions 601 and 650.
Dean of FMIPA UI Prof. Dede Djuhana Ph.D. expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the academic community. According to him, this achievement is the fruit of the synergy and hard work of all its members.
"We are certainly grateful and proud of this achievement. This is a joint achievement, the result of hard work together with many parties, especially the academic community," said Prof. Dede.
With the increasing number of fields of science at FMIPA UI that are included in the world rankings, he is optimistic that in the future there will be more fields of science at FMIPA UI that will be able to add to the long list of achievements.
This is not impossible, because according to him, FMIPA UI continues to strive to encourage the improvement of academic reputation both at the national and international levels by continuing to collaborate with partners at home and abroad, in order to improve research and innovation results.
"We work hard together to improve academic reputation, domestic and international cooperation, research activities and superior innovations, we also continue to improve," he said.
Furthermore, he hopes that this achievement will be a motivation for the academic community of FMIPA UI to jointly improve performance, creativity and research innovation, in line with efforts to realize the vision of FMIPA UI, namely to become a leading science faculty that is able to compete at the international level.
QS WUR by Subjects 2024 is attended by 1,559 institutions with 64 universities as new participants. This ranking displays 55 narrow subjects grouped into 5 broad subjects. There are five indicators in the ranking, namely Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Paper, H-Index, and International Research Network (IRN).
Academic Reputation is used to collect opinions from academics worldwide regarding their assessment of related universities. Employer Reputation assesses the employability matrix based on employer reputation. Citations per Paper is an indicator to measure the number of publication citations and estimate the impact and quality of scientific work produced by universities. Meanwhile, H-Index measures the stability of the impact and quality of work published by scientists, while IRN is a measure of efficiency in building research collaborations in each broad subject area.
