Wednesday, April 6, 2022. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), once again held a webinar titled MIPAtalk Series. This second series carried the theme: The Roles Of Chemistry and Biologi in Modern Therapeutic by inviting someone Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry The University of Kansas, Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan as a resource person, and Dr. Endang Saepudin from the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UI as moderator.
Still held online via the Zoom Meeting platform, this activity was also broadcast live on the official FMIPA UI YouTube channel. Participants in the webinar included UI academics, external researchers, and the general public who had registered through the registration link provided by the committee.
The event opened with remarks from the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, FMIPA UI, Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan. In his remarks, Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan stated, "This activity has been planned by the faculty as part of our efforts to improve the academic reputation of the University of Indonesia."
He stated that the topics discussed in this series were very interesting because they discussed the important role of chemistry and biology in the context of health issues. Through this webinar, he hoped to receive input, ideas, and related matters for research or collaboration in chemistry and biology on the topics discussed.
Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan revealed new trends in therapeutic discovery and development, resulting in a shift in the roles of chemistry, biochemistry, and biology in designing molecules for the future. Furthermore, training new scientists and students to adapt to new scientific paradigms is necessary. Therefore, it is necessary to consider changes in research and teaching within the foundations of science departments.
MIPAtalk Series 2 lasted two hours. The webinar participants were enthusiastic, as evidenced by the numerous questions directed at Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan.
Dr. Endang Saepudin, the event moderator, stated that the two hours allotted felt too short considering the numerous topics to discuss. The webinar concluded with a virtual group photo with the participants.
