Research in Border Villages by a Number of Students from the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI

Two villages in Jasinga District, Bogor Regency, were chosen as the locations for the third Field Work Lecture (KKL) by students from the 2019 intake of the Geography Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI). The two villages were Tegalwangi Village and Wirajaya Village.

Nineteen students participated in this activity. In the border region, they conducted research with the main theme "Research in Border Villages." The activity lasted three days, from May 23, 2022, to May 26, 2022.

Dr. Taqiyuddin, the supervising lecturer, explained to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team that, in keeping with the theme, the third KKL activity in Jasinga focused on research in border villages between West Java and Banten provinces.

"A total of 19 of our students participated in the research; there should have been 20, but one couldn't participate due to an unforeseen condition," he said.

Each student conducted research with a different title, focusing on two major themes: Physical Geography (water quality, flood threats, landslides, drought, etc.) and Human Geography and its combination (public health facilities, access to healthy nutrition, children's education during the COVID-19 pandemic, etc.).

The research focused on issues related to these themes, including the implementation of therapeutic landscapes in tourist attractions in Jasinga District and patterns of residential land use change based on topography between 2016 and 2022.

The human geography expert also stated that the results of this research will be processed into a database for the university and then published more widely to assist the local government in resolving issues in the border region.

"We will publish more widely through several journal articles and other resources, as well as seminars on and off campus," he concluded.
