The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, has successfully improved its ranking in GreenMetrik UI 2022. This year, FMIPA UI was ranked second as the most sustainable faculty in UI. This achievement is a big jump from the previous year which was ranked 15th.
The announcement of the rankings and presentation of the awards was held by UI on Monday (12/12), at the UI Convention Hall, Depok Campus, and broadcast on UI's official YouTube.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D. expressed his gratitude and highest appreciation to the GreenMetric special team at FMIPA UI for their hard work in collecting, evaluating, improving, and entering the data that needed to be completed in the survey.
The Dean also expressed his gratitude to his staff, and all academicians and FMIPA UI residents who had supported the team's performance.
"Alhamdulillah, this ranking has shot up extraordinarily, I really appreciate and thank the GreenMetric FMIPA UI team, as well as the academic community or education staff who also helped strive for this success," said the Dean.
"We at the FMIPA UI leadership level also continue to direct, supervise, and evaluate data that we think needs special attention for improvement," he added.
Furthermore, the Dean emphasized that regardless of this award, FMIPA UI is always committed to managing the campus environment, in order to realize a green campus that is sustainable and environmentally aware.
"This is also to promote UI as an agent of social change related to sustainable goals," he said.
This commitment is expressed through the determination of the direction of the GreenMetric program policy in the FMIPA UI environment, namely the Energy Conservation Program Policy, Transportation Policy, Policy on Limiting the Use of Hazardous and Toxic Materials for Food and Beverage Packaging, Policy on Reducing the Use of Paper and Plastic, Clean Water Conservation Policy, Policy on the Use of Bicycles and Pedestrian Paths, and the Smoke-Free Area Policy.
On the same occasion, UI GreenMetric also announced the sustainability ranking awards for Indonesia and International levels. UI itself won the title of Best Sustainable Campus 2022.
UI GreenMetric is an innovation of UI that is widely known in the international world as the first university ranking in the world based on a high commitment to campus environmental management. Now, UI GreenMetric of World Universities is increasingly global and is increasingly followed by universities in various countries.
This year, the number of participants reached 1050 universities from 85 countries in the world, increasing from the previous (2021) of 956 universities from 80 countries. In Indonesia, there are 126 universities that have participated in UI GreenMetric. The UI GreenMetric 2021 assessment is based on three pillars, namely Environment, Economy, and Social with the weight of the assessment indicators consisting of Campus Conditions and Infrastructure (15%), Energy and Climate Change (21%), Waste Management (18%), Water Use (10%), Transportation (18%), and Education and Research (18%).
UI Chancellor, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., appreciated the UI GreenMetric ranking that originated from UI and has gone global as it is today. He said, “This year the teaching and learning process has been running extensively, again utilizing campus infrastructure. Various innovations have been carried out by adjusting new habits to be cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable. The management of universities to become centers for the realization of a green economy continues to be carried out. The impact of campus activities on the environment, society, and economy of the community is attempted in many programs initiated by lecturers. Cooperation between universities in the world and in Indonesia can be seen from the enthusiasm to participate in this ranking and carry out transformations on their campuses.”
