Achieving Greater International Recognition, These 3 Study Programs from FMIPA UI Enter Global Rankings

Good news once again comes from the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject 2022. Through its official website www.topuniversities.com/subject-rankings/2022, QS WUR released rankings based on subjects or fields of study, covering 5 broad subject areas (broad subject area) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) successfully entered the international rankings. Among those fields of study are three from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia.

If in the previous year only the field of study Geography and meanwhile within the subject area Natural Sciences that was listed in the rankings, this year one more has been added subject with the inclusion of the field of study Biological Sciences within the subject area Life Sciences and Medicine.

In 2022, the field of study Geography still holds the same position, which is 151–200, meanwhile experienced an improvement in ranking from last year, moving from position 551–600 to 501–550, followed by the field of study Biological Sciences successfully ranked in the 551–600 range.

Dean of FMIPA UI, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., expressed his gratitude and pride. He thanked the entire academic community of FMIPA UI. According to him, this achievement is the result of synergy and hard work by all its members.

With the addition of a field of study at FMIPA UI being listed in the rankings, the Dean is optimistic that other fields will also be able to add to the long list of achievements in the future. This is certainly possible, as FMIPA UI continues to promote the enhancement of its academic reputation both nationally and internationally. In addition, efforts to establish collaborations with partners both domestically and abroad in producing creative innovations are also continuously pursued.

This is a shared achievement, the result of hard work together with many parties, especially the academic community. In the future, it is very possible for FMIPA UI to contribute additional fields of study to the QS WUR, because we are working together to enhance academic reputation, strengthen collaborations both domestically and internationally, and continuously improve research activities and outstanding innovations," he stated to the FMIPA UI public relations team.

Furthermore, he hopes that this achievement will serve as motivation for the academic community of FMIPA UI to collectively enhance performance, creativity, and research innovation, in line with the effort to realize FMIPA UI's vision of becoming a leading faculty in the field of science capable of playing a global role in advancing science and sustainable development.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 covers a total of 51 fields of study, grouped into five broad subject areas. This ranking is released by QS to help the public identify leading universities in specific subject areas and/or fields of study.

The global university ranking by subject is determined based on an assessment of five indicators: academic reputation, results from global surveys conducted among employers and academics, the number of research citations per paper in the given subject (with all citation data sourced from Elsevier Scopus), the H-index which measures the productivity and impact of published academic research, and the International Research Network, which reflects an institution’s ability to diversify the geographical reach of its international research network through sustained partnerships with other higher education institutions.
