Three Masters Programs of FMIPA UI Undergo ASIIN International Visitation

After previously four study programs (Prodi) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) successfully achieved international accreditation from the Akkreditierungsagentur fur Studiengange der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN), now three other study programs, namely the Masters of Physics, Masters of Material Science, and Masters of Biology, are undergoing an international visitation by ASIIN which will take place on March 13-15, 2023.

When delivering a speech at the visitation, the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc. said that UI is continuously striving and committed to improving the quality of learning. "Through global involvement, UI is able to build a sustainable academic reputation and encourage international ranking for the university," said Prof. Haris.

The three study programs underwent a series of visitation/audit activities by peer review or the ASIIN assessor team online. Some of the places visited virtually include the Physics Department Laboratory, the Biology Department Laboratory, the Integrity Laboratory and Research Center (ILRC) Building, the Library, the UI Makara Satellite Clinic, and classrooms.

According to the Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit of FMIPA UI, Dr. Dra. Denny Riama Silaban., M.Kom., the participation of these three study programs is an effort to improve and ensure that the quality of education at FMIPA UI has followed international standards.

Thus, continued Dr. Denny, FMIPA UI is increasingly recognized internationally and opens up wider opportunities to collaborate with leading universities in the world.

"This effort also opens up opportunities for foreign students to continue their studies at FMIPA UI," he said.

He added that the preparations made before the visit were not easy to do because they involved... task force from various study programs with different schedules and activities. Not to mention aligning the perceptions and steps (work speed) of each study program.

“For that, we made task force fakultas dan task force "Every study program holds regular meetings. In preparation for this year, there were also two consignments held over 2-3 days," said Dr. Denny.

Dean of FMIPA UI Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., fully supports and oversees the entire accreditation process. He said, "ASIIN accreditation is an indicator of improving the quality and quality of the education process at FMIPA UI to meet international standards. This recognition is important for the FMIPA UI academic community to be widely known at the international and global levels."

ASIIN is an independent international accreditation institution based in Germany for quality assurance of a degree program in the disciplines of engineering, informatics, natural sciences, and mathematics. Since 2000, ASIIN has had the right to provide an accreditation stamp from the German Accreditation Council, in addition to the ASIIN quality stamp. ASIIN is registered in The European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) until August 31, 2026. EQAR is included in the list of accreditation registers recognized by the Indonesian government.

For the next process, ASIIN will provide an initial accreditation report that can be responded to by FMIPA UI. Then the final accreditation results for these three study programs are estimated to be obtained by FMIPA UI around June-July 2023.
