The University of Indonesia (UI) officially announced the results of the initial selection stage of the 2025 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) on Friday (7/2). A total of 20 students were selected as UI contingents who will advance to the regional selection.
The participants who passed were the best five from each competition field, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Of the total 20 students, 15 came from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI, while the other five came from the Faculty of Medicine (FK), Faculty of Engineering (FT), Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom), and Faculty of Nursing (FIK).
The university selection stage took place online on Saturday (25/1). Furthermore, the contingents will take part in the regional selection, the schedule of which will be announced later. At this stage, participants will be grouped into 16 regions according to the division of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI). UI itself is included in region III which includes DKI Jakarta.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., appreciated the students' achievements and was optimistic that they would be able to compete at the regional and national levels.
"I believe that the UI contingent has excellent potential to compete at the regional and even national levels. Moreover, they are also well prepared to face the next selection," said Prof. Dede.
As in previous years, UI provides an intensive guidance program for participants in preparation for the next selection stage. Students will receive guidance from officially appointed supervisors, namely:
field of Mathematics: Ryan Kasyfil Aziz, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.
field of Physics: Dr. Adam Badra Cahaya, B.Sc., M.Sc.
field of chemistry Iman Abdullah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.
field of biology: Tety Maryenti, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Prof. Dede also encouraged the participants to make the most of this mentoring opportunity.
"Take advantage of every mentoring session and continue to train your abilities. This competition is not only about winning, but also about the learning process that will be valuable provisions in the future," he added.
