Saturday (6/8). Chancellor of the University of Indonesia Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. inaugurated two Permanent Professors of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) online.
The two professors are Prof. Alhadi Bustamam, M.Kom., Ph.D. as a Permanent Professor of FMIPA UI in the field of Computational Mathematics, and Prof. Dr. Titin Siswantining, D.E.A. as a Permanent Professor of FMIPA UI in the field of Statistics.
This ceremony was also held live in the Sinarmas Hall, Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, FMIPA UI – PT Pertamina (Persero), UI Campus, and was also attended by the Head of the Central Statistics Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (KBPS RI) Mr. Margo Yuwono, the families of each of the inaugurated FMIPA UI Professors, leaders in the FMIPA UI environment, and lecturers from the Department of Mathematics.
On the same occasion, the Chancellor also inaugurated Professors from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Administrative Sciences, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.
Prof. Alhadi delivered his inaugural speech entitled The Strategic Role of Computational Mathematics and Data Science in the Multidisciplinary Era of Bioinformatics, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.
“Currently, Bioinformatics is leaping into a new era of “big data” by generating big data in everyday life, such as in genomics research,” said Prof. Alhadi in his speech.
Big Data itself is a collection of data that is very large, complex, and continues to grow all the time. Meanwhile, Artificial Intelligence (AI) or artificial intelligence is the ability of a system to interpret external data correctly, to learn from it, and to use it to achieve certain goals and tasks through flexible adaptation.
The Head of the Mathematics Department of FMIPA UI sees prospects in developing research related to Computational Mathematics, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Big Data and AI in the multidisciplinary era. Prospects for developing research include research collaboration with related faculties/fields, government, and industry; MBKM Program and introduction of Data Science and AI at the school level; strengthening human resources; and the formation of startups in the fields of Data Science and AI.
Meanwhile, Prof. Titin delivered her inaugural speech entitled The Role of Statistics in Data Science in Predicting Intelligence Healthcare Welcoming the Era of Society 5.0.
According to Prof. Titin, Statistics is a science related to data. In its development, statistics is used as a means to inform the decision-making process in dealing with uncertainty in real problems in both science and humanities.
"This can happen because statistics has the concept of randomness, variability, error and probability. Statistics began to develop along with the development of the era to become part of a combination of sciences such as data science and biostatistics," said Prof. Titin in her speech.
The Head of the Statistics Study Program, FMIPA UI, said that from the results of his research, it can be concluded that statistics plays an important role as tools on data science in predicting intelligence healthcare to welcome the era society 5.0. Recent research has been on Improving the quality of clinical artificial intelligence: towards continuous monitoring and updating of AI algorithms in healthcare.
