FMIPA UI Becomes a Benchmark for FKIP Universitas Bengkulu in Quality Assurance Best Practices

Depok, May 29, 2026 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), welcomed a visit from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Bengkulu, on Thursday (May 21, 2026). The delegation was received by FMIPA UI Dean Tito Latif Indra and his team as part of efforts to strengthen academic networks and foster collaboration among higher education institutions.

The meeting, held at the Faculty Administration Center Meeting Room of FMIPA UI, Depok Campus, served as a forum for sharing best practices in academic management and higher education quality assurance.

The discussion covered various aspects of academic governance, ranging from the management of students’ final projects and graduation assessment procedures (yudisium) to strategies for strengthening internal quality assurance systems. The visit also reflected FMIPA UI’s commitment to promoting strategic and accountable governance through enhanced collaboration among higher education institutions.

The event was officially opened by Anom Bowolaksono, Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FMIPA UI. In his opening remarks, he introduced the FMIPA UI leadership structure for the 2025–2029 term.

Prof. Anom also highlighted several strategic developments within FMIPA UI, including the establishment of the International Undergraduate Special Class Program (Kelas Khusus Internasional / KKI) for Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. The program was officially launched at the end of 2025 and began accepting student applications in 2026. The KKI program will be offered through both single-degree and joint-degree schemes in collaboration with University of Queensland and Monash University.

“Through the establishment of this International Special Class (KKI) program, FMIPA UI seeks to broaden students’ international exposure while strengthening academic collaboration with partner universities abroad,” said Prof. Anom.

During the discussion session, Januar Widakdo, Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit (UPMA) of FMIPA UI, explained that the faculty implements a final-project management system tailored to the specific characteristics of each department, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and Geosciences.

For example, in the Department of Mathematics, students’ final-project proposals must undergo a rigorous review process by the head of the study program and academic supervisors before students can proceed to the next stage. The scheduling of thesis defenses has also been digitally integrated to minimize delays in academic processes.

“All monitoring processes are conducted in a structured manner to ensure that students are able to complete their studies on time,” said Januar.

The discussion also highlighted differences in the graduation assessment (yudisium) mechanisms adopted by the two institutions. At FKIP Universitas Bengkulu, the yudisium process still requires students to be physically present. In contrast, at FMIPA UI, yudisium decisions are conducted internally by the Education Manager in coordination with the heads of study programs.

To facilitate timely graduation, Universitas Indonesia conducts final-project yudisium sessions on a monthly basis, thereby preventing the accumulation of administrative processes at the end of each semester.

FMIPA UI has also implemented a digital final-project document management system through an integrated platform. Several departments, including Mathematics and Physics, utilize SharePoint to monitor students’ supervisory progress and assess their eligibility to proceed to the final thesis defense stage.

In addition to discussing academic governance, the two institutions also exchanged views on quality assurance strategies and study program accreditation processes. Januar Widakdo explained that Universitas Indonesia’s internal quality assurance system is implemented systematically through various evaluation instruments, including the Student Evaluation of Teaching (Evaluasi Dosen oleh Mahasiswa / EDOM), Semester Internal Evaluation (Evaluasi Internal Semesteran / EVISEM), Annual Internal Evaluation (Evaluasi Internal Tahunan / EVITAH), and Learning Monitoring and Evaluation (Monitoring Evaluasi Pembelajaran / MEP).

Currently, the majority of study programs at FMIPA UI have achieved the “Excellent” (Unggul) accreditation status from LAMSAMA and BAN-PT. FMIPA UI has also successfully converted its international accreditation recognition into national accreditation through LAMSAMA, effective March 10, 2026.

Several study programs that have obtained the accreditation conversion certificates include the Bachelor’s Program in Chemistry, the Master’s Program in Physics, the Master’s Program in Materials Science, and the Master’s Program in Biology.

Wiwit, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit of FKIP Universitas Bengkulu, stated that the faculty still conducts study program reaccreditation through the regular accreditation process and has not yet implemented a direct conversion mechanism from international accreditation to national accreditation.

The discussion also covered internal quality audit mechanisms. FMIPA UI conducts Internal Academic Audits in alignment with the study program accreditation cycle, whereas FKIP Universitas Bengkulu still implements Internal Quality Audits on an annual basis.

The benchmarking activity concluded with a group photo session and the exchange of souvenirs as a symbol of strengthening academic networks between institutions.

The FKIP Universitas Bengkulu delegation was led by its Dean, Abdul Rahman, accompanied by the Head of the Quality Assurance Unit Wiwit, the Head of the Field Experience Practice Unit Dewi Handayani, along with several academic staff members.

Meanwhile, from FMIPA UI, the participants included the Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit (UPMA), Januar Widakdo, Education Manager Fevi Novkaniza, Assistant Manager for Cooperation Development, Asset Commercialization, and Integrated Area Development Dwi Nurcahyadi, and Finance, Accounting, and Budget Manager Evi Nurvianti.
