The Department of Biology
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Universitas Indonesia
The Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Indonesia (UI) received an academic visit from the Undergraduate Program in Actuarial Science, Surabaya State University (UNESA) on Thursday (15/5). This activity was carried out in order to benchmark the curriculum and strengthen the preparation for the accreditation of the UNESA study program.
The visit, which took place at the Mathematics Department Building, FMIPA UI, UI Depok Campus, was welcomed directly by the Head of the Mathematics Department, FMIPA UI, Prof. Alhadi Bustamam, S.Si., M.Kom., Ph.D., together with the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Actuarial Science, FMIPA UI, Dr. Suci Fratama Sari, M.Si. The UNESA delegation was led by the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Actuarial Science, Affiati Oktaviarina, S.Si., M.Sc., together with two UNESA lecturers, namely Dimas Avian Maulana, M.Si. and Danang Ariyanto, M.Si.
This meeting focused on discussions on curriculum development, especially in the effort to prepare the accreditation form for the Independent Accreditation Institution for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA) by UNESA. In a warm and constructive discussion atmosphere, both parties shared experiences and learning strategies, including the academic quality assurance system.
One of the main topics in the meeting was the integration of the curriculum with the exam modules from the Indonesian Actuarial Association (PAI). The FMIPA UI Actuarial Science Undergraduate Study Program has equated a number of courses with the A10 to A70 certification modules, which are the basis for the Adjunct Actuary certification.
"Aligning the curriculum with professional standards provides significant added value for students, because they can prepare themselves to face the actuarial professional certification exam while still in college," said Dr. Suci.
In addition to the curriculum, the discussion also covered the implementation of the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) program that has been implemented by FMIPA UI, including student exchange schemes, internship programs, and student involvement in research.
“UNESA is very interested in the MBKM scheme that we are implementing, such as student exchange programs, internships, and involvement in research. This is a good space for collaboration between universities,” added Dr. Suci.
Affiati Oktaviarina, as the UNESA Study Program Coordinator, welcomed this collaboration. “We learned a lot from UI, especially in developing a curriculum that is adaptive to industry needs and professional certification. This really helps us in the accreditation process and long-term planning,” she said.
Also present on the occasion were lecturers from the Actuarial Science Undergraduate Study Program, FMIPA UI, including Dr. Fevi Novkaniza, M.Sc., Sindy Devila, M.Sc., and Fida Fathiyah Addini, M.Sc.
This benchmarking activity is not only a forum for exchanging knowledge and experience, but also opens up opportunities for ongoing collaboration between UI and UNESA, such as research collaboration and holding joint public lectures.
