On Saturday (March 26, 2022), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) participated in the UI Virtual SBMPTN Info Days 2022. FMIPA UI's presence at the event was to introduce study programs (prodi), lecture activities, and graduate prospects to prospective undergraduate students throughout Indonesia.
Rika Tri Yunarti, Ph.D., Education Manager, was present as a speaker at the FMIPA UI virtual booth, delivering a presentation on these topics. Rika opened the presentation by explaining the study programs offered by FMIPA UI, from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, along with the national and international accreditations they have received.
"Several FMIPA UI study programs have received international accreditation. National accreditation from BAN-PT is indeed mandatory. Several of our study programs have received superior status, and most have A grades," said Rika.
Although several study programs still hold B accreditation, Rika stated that the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI is currently working to improve their accreditation status to become superior.
Furthermore, the international accreditation bodies that have certified FMIPA UI are AUN-QA for the undergraduate programs in Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics, and Physics, and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for the undergraduate program in Chemistry. The assessment results from the Akkreditierungsagentur fur Studiengange der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN), a German-based accreditation agency, will soon be released for four undergraduate programs: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Geography.
"This year, four study programs are in the process of obtaining ASIIN international accreditation. Last month, we underwent a visit by the ASIIN team for all four programs, and we will receive the results soon. Hopefully, the results will meet our expectations." said the chemistry lecturer with expertise in inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry. material chemistry itu.
On the same occasion, he also explained the new student capacity for the 2022/2023 academic year from all Regular (SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and SIMAK UI) and Parallel (PPKB and SIMAK UI) admission pathways, as well as the competitiveness of each regular undergraduate program within each pathway.
"For the regular pathway this year, the quota for SNMPTN is 20%, SBMPTN 30%, and SIMAK 50%. Meanwhile, for the parallel pathways, PPKB and SIMAK, each have 50% quota. So please take advantage of this opportunity to the fullest, according to your interests," he added.
Since the government implemented the Independent Learning and Independent Campus (MBKM) curriculum in 2020, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Indonesia (UI) has implemented various programs and activities to support this policy. These include: credit earning berbasis MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) through four undergraduate study programs, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, as well as the Internship Program and Certified Independent Study in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
"Since the implementation of MBKM, in 2020 all study programs were asked to create an independent curriculum that implemented the curriculum Outcomes-Based Education (OBE). "OBE learning focuses on the learning process during the study period, ensuring students are closely monitored to develop their potential and prepare them for the world of work," said the education manager, explaining the implementation and objectives of MBKM.
Before concluding the presentation, Rika provided an overview of career opportunities for FMIPA UI graduates, particularly in the Industry 4.0 era. As graduates from a scientific field that is at the forefront of technological advancement, FMIPA UI graduates have broad career prospects.
"Fields that require the role of scientists in the era of industry 4.0 include: Data Analyst, Big Data Architect, Software Engineer, Market researcher, and of course there are many more," he said.
He also emphasized that future job opportunities will be digital-based. Therefore, FMIPA UI graduates are required to possess not only hard skills saja tapi juga soft skills seperti complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, cognitive flexibility, and emotional intelligence.
"Indeed, this ability is developed through the MBKM program, so it is very important for students to have knowledge not only from what is learned in the study program, but also to have honed skills. soft skills" said the graduate of the University of Science and Technology (UST) - Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), South Korea.
The UI Virtual SBMPTN Info Days activities began on March 25, 2022. The series of activities on the first day consisted of a speech by UI Chancellor Prof. Ari Kuncoro, SE., MA., Ph.D., an explanation of the 2022 SBMPTN UTBK System by the Executive Chairman of LTMPT Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, DESS., DEA., a socialization of the 2022 New Student Admissions System by the Head of the UI PMB Office Dr. Gunawan, ST., MT., and ended with a question and answer session with the resource persons.
Meanwhile, the second day's series of activities included information about study programs, lecture activities, lecture facilities, academic and non-academic collaborations, and graduate prospects at each faculty's virtual booth.
