Students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) have again made a brilliant achievement at the national level. In the Arkavidia 9.0 event, an information technology competition organized by the ITB Informatics Student Association, two FMIPA UI student teams successfully won 2nd and 3rd place in the Datavidia competition.
The Bukan Amigos team, consisting of Aurelio Naufal Effendy, Favian Sulthan Wafi, and Rifqi Hafizuddin (Statistics students 2021), won 2nd place. Meanwhile, the Deepsick team, consisting of Farhan Akhtar Gymnasiar, Mohammad Raffy Zeidan (Statistics 2022), and Hilmy Rahmadani (Mathematics 2022), won 3rd place. The awarding of the winners was carried out at the peak night of Arkavidia 9.0 at Labtek V, Bandung Institute of Technology, on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
Datavidia is one of six competition categories in Arkavidia, which tests participants' analytical abilities in processing and analyzing data to solve real problems using a data-driven approach. data-driven.
In the final round, participants were asked to predict property rental prices based on property data with various attributes such as location, property type, building area, facilities, and other characteristics.
"We are required to think critically and work quickly in producing relevant insights. This competition is a challenging yet valuable experience for us," said Aurelio Naufal Effendy, representative of the Bukan Amigos team to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.
In completing the case study, both FMIPA UI teams implemented a systematic and collaborative work strategy. They divided the tasks according to their respective expertise, starting from data cleaning and transformation. (preprocessing), exploratory analysis (exploratory data analysis/EDA), to the development and testing of predictive models.
The solution offered by the FMIPA UI team prioritizes a modern analytical approach, which is able to provide precise insights, and can be applied to support data-based decision making.
"The solution we offer aims to support data-based decision making, especially in predicting property rental prices," he said.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., appreciated the students' proud achievements. "This achievement shows that our students are not only superior in mastering theory, but are also able to apply it creatively to solve real-world challenges," said Prof. Dede.
Prof. Dede also emphasized FMIPA UI's commitment to creating a learning ecosystem that supports the development of student competencies as a whole.
"We always encourage students to be actively involved in cross-disciplinary competitions and collaborations, both at the national and international levels. The hope is that they can continue to develop into graduates who can make real contributions to society," he added.
Arkavidia 9.0 carries the theme “Unlock the Future – with Innovation & Collaboration”, and become a forum for developing the interests and abilities of students and college students in the field of information technology. In addition to competitions, this event also presents seminars and talk show which brings together practitioners, academics and participants to exchange insights and experiences.
