Depok, October 14, 2026 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), continues to strengthen inter-university networks and synergies through its participation in various academic cooperation forums. One such initiative was the attendance of FMIPA UI Dean, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., M.Si., at the 2026 Seminar and Annual Meeting (Seminar dan Rapat Tahunan or SEMIRATA) of the Consortium of Western Indonesia State Universities (Badan Kerja Sama Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Wilayah Barat or BKS PTN Barat) in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The event took place on October 12–13, 2026, at the Universitas Terbuka Convention Centre (UTCC) in South Tangerang.
Organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas Terbuka (UT), the event brought together 113 participants from 20 state universities in Western Indonesia specializing in mathematics and natural sciences. As an annual forum, SEMIRATA provides a platform for universities to coordinate, share experiences, exchange ideas, and strengthen cooperation in education, research, and innovation.
For FMIPA UI, participation in this forum is part of its efforts to strengthen institutional relations while exploring new collaboration opportunities with other universities. The meeting also provided an opportunity to keep abreast of strategic issues in higher education, particularly those related to improving academic quality and strengthening the contribution of research.
SEMIRATA 2026 was held in conjunction with The 6th International Seminar of Science and Technology (ISST), which carried the theme “Advancing Science and Technology for Sustainable Environment and Resource Management”. The theme highlights the role of science and technology in addressing environmental sustainability challenges and promoting responsible resource management. Through this series of events, scientific and technological development formed part of broader discussions on solutions to various sustainable development challenges.

As part of its Knowledge Sharing & Organizational Meetings, SEMIRATA 2026 addressed two main topics: “Dissemination of the LAMSAMA IAPS 3.0 Instrument” and “Downstreaming and Commercialization of Research Results.” These topics highlighted key aspects of higher education development, ranging from strengthening academic quality assurance to increasing the utilization and commercial potential of research outcomes.
Quality assurance serves as a fundamental pillar in maintaining the standards of higher education. Meanwhile, research downstreaming and commercialization create opportunities for university-developed innovations to be applied more widely, both to address societal needs and to support industrial development. In this way, research not only advances scientific knowledge but also has the potential to generate added value for society.
FMIPA UI Dean, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., M.Si., emphasized that the faculty’s involvement in various formal organizations represents a strategic step toward expanding collaborative networks and strengthening synergies among universities.
“FMIPA UI’s involvement in various formal organizations is a strategic step toward expanding collaborative networks and strengthening synergies among universities. Through these networks, we hope to further develop research cooperation and maximize the benefits of research for society while supporting sustainable development,” said Prof. Tito.
FMIPA UI’s participation in the 2026 SEMIRATA of BKS PTN Barat in Mathematics and Natural Sciences is expected to lay the groundwork for more concrete inter-university partnerships, particularly in collaborative research, innovation development, and the utilization of research outcomes. Through this forum, institutional relationships can grow into productive collaborations that contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and deliver meaningful benefits to society.
